Hi, I am student of electronic engineering and I am in this semester paying a microcontroller chair... In this chair the a was seen family PIC and is studying the PIC16F877. Then, the teacher in them passed a work to create a real problem to use some resources of this PIC. is convoked to use converting resource A/D and the PWM. I like some real problem that uses for the same these two functions of the PIC? since already, thanks.
 

Speed control of DC motor

Speed encoder -> low pass filter -> ADC
Speed feedback -> PWM -> Duty Cycle
 

A/D converter? try measuring temperature
try using lm25 national it is an analog temperature sensor
 

Could drive some cheap steppers from printers. Try this link even has program and code to run it.

All the way down at the bottom, you may not want to copy his work but it should give you some great ideas. As well you might want to check out the piclist for some ideas and code. If your knew to pics check the e-book section and do some search's through the posts you may find a unique idea for a project.
