hai all,

I think ceiling fan is inductive load; but when I measure the power factor of the fan, it shows 0.99. I need to know is it a true reading...? if it is not true, is there any possibility of reading power factor 0.99 if they include PFC circuit in the regulator circuit....?

Older ceiling fans were high slip induction motors and indeed, its PF was both lagging and lousy.

Newer ceiling fans are BLDC motors, and depending on the country, may or may not have active PFC circuitry.

thanks for your reply....Actually Iam measuring the power factor including the fan regulator circuitry, that's why I doubt it.

I did some search in this regard and I found out that some organization did carry out some comparison studies. Here they figured out the PF to be 5 for all the fans from different makes.

By using BLDC motor and energy efficinet design the PF could reach to more than 90%.

Why can't you provide details on how you calculated the apparent and active power for calculation of PF?
