How good is WIN CE compared with Windows XP embedded

Well guys i have a simple question yet confusin, could any one tell me the difference between these two OSs.. and how good is platform builder.. i saw a demo of this software what ever u call it.. seem to be impressive but how powerful is it?

Windows XP embedded?? I listened about windows CE that is for embedded systems.
 

Windows XP embedded is a customizable version of Windows XP, only valid for x86 architectures. Windows CE is not based on Windows XP, it's valid for several achitectures (ARM, x86, ...) and it's a Real-Time operating system.

Also CE architecture is completely different from NT or 98.
So device drivers for CE need to be produced separately.
Whereas it has been said that a driver made for WinXP will work for
Xp embedded(haven't verified it though).

Can Windows XP be used as Embedded OS ?
that is the first time to hear that, i am really interested in it. maybe it is just a customered OS to work on X86 architecture

Unlike a desktop operating system, Windows XP Embedded is not a monolithic operating system installation. Instead, Windows XP Embedded provides the Windows XP Professional feature set through a set of components, which are individually selectable operating system features (such as Windows Explorer Shell or IIS - Internet Information Services), services
(such as networking), and drivers (such as peripheral drivers) that you can choose to implement in your embedded design.

One of the key benefits of componentization is that you can customize your operating system runtime image by choosing only the functionality you require. This allows you to substantially reduce the footprint of your customized Windows XP Embedded operating system image.
 

Windows Xp Embedded is not real-time, its just a scalable version of the desktop operating system that can be put in small boxes which require good user interface and things like that...ofcourse it gives the option to select the components unlike the desktop version

CE is the real-time OS from Microsoft which stands up with others such as QNX, Vx-works..etc ...

Windows XP embedded is based on the XP kernel with multiple types of processor support. The hardware performance requirement of XP embedded is lower than windows XP but it is much higher than others embedded platform such as linux and CE.
