How much node can be attached to CAN bus

What is maximum number of can node can be on bus?
as every protocols having node limitation due to different reason. So what is reason of number of node on can bus?

Number of nodes isn't directly related to available identifiers.

Industry standard transceivers for the differential pair physical layer specify 110 nodes fan-out. The number can be further increased by using repeaters,
 
yes on the identifier means the no of message.right?
