Hii all,

Can I replace 0603 package resistor/capacitor with 0402 package??

"Replace" in which regard?

- Solder a 0402 part to a 0603 footprint? Possible with hand solder only.

- Change a 0603 part to 0402 footprint in a redesign? Yes, if a part with sufficient rating is available.

Possibly depending on your footprint, overlay an 0402 on the 0603 and look at how the solder fillets will form. As post #2 hints, hand soldering may be the only option, or gluing if going through an SMD line as the larger pads and extra solder during reflow could cause the device to twist.

Thanks for your reply.

Actually I need to reduce my PCB size,in my design 30+ capacitors+resistors are there. So I am hoping I can reduce my PCB size by doing this type of changes.

Thanks.

Only you as the designer can possibly know if an 0402 is of suitable wattage to replace your 0603 components as we cannot tell without the circuit and by doing some math on how the circuit works.

The most likely answer is yes but only you should be able to tell this.
