my servo drive accepts rs 422 step signals(step+,step-), from pic micro controller i am giving pulses by converting to rs 422 using am26ls31
ic and giving the differential signal to the servo drive. my doubt is should i must connect the micro controller ground(0v) to servo ground(0v) (micro controller operating voltage 5v, servo drive operating voltage 24v). in rs 422 the transmitter and receiver ground must be same?

hello,

Even working in differential mode, signal is referenced from the 0V,
so before, test if you have Ground probleme between both equipement ... or Earth connections ?

any difference of potentiel (Volts AC or DC) beetwen ?
if not, you can connect both 0V (5V) and 0V(Servo ground)

If you detect some voltage between , or have some doubt, it is better to use opto-isolators..
