Hi,

I have tried to use the beaglebone black in an industrial environment but with limited success, some boards have failed completely for some reason or the other.

I would like to try out the mbed modules instead of the BBB.

So can the mbed module be used in industrial environment, I noticed they have mentioned in the website that it is meant for prototyping and development, the same also applies for the Microchip sticks.

Has anyone used these devices in an industrial environment where the conditions are hot and dusty. The fragile nature of the modules makes me think they may be unsuitable for commercial applications.

I am using PIC micro-controllers for my products, they work the best in these environments. But unfortunately they lack connectivity such as USB host capability (possible but tedious coding is involved), TCP/IP stack (not sure how good Microchip Stack is) etc.

thanks

we have had PIC18F97J60 devices with 10bastT with TCP/IP stack in an industrial environment for many years
no problem apart from EEPROMs dying - we think the original specification was wrong and they were saving much more data than we were told
replaced with FRAM and are now OK
this is a legacy product and we would not use PIC18s now - would use PIC24 or PIC32

have used PIC24FJ256GB110 with embedded USB host in a communcial environment for serveral years without problems

are working on product based on PIC24FJ256GB110 with USB host and WiFi
