Hi
I have some question about which one is proper to rtl enginner among tcl,tk, perl?

I'm trying to learn new lang.
priory I have some experience to make design compiler tcl.
but i'm not sure which one is proper to rtl enginner.
acutually, i willing to deep digging after selected.

so please let me know your recommend.

Perl for general use and parsing simulation outputs, generating data, etc.

I'm currently only working with FPGAs so this might not pertain to the ASIC tool flow. Tcl I use it for my tool flow Xilinx and since it's designed to work with the AXI master core, I use it to read/write AXI registers. Tk isn't a language it's a bunch of routines to add a GUI to your scripts. I've used it with both Tcl/Tk and as Perl/Tk (used Perl/Tk to write a REGEX search/replace tool with a GUI front end)

IMHO, Tcl is still the most common language for controlling EDA tools. It's simplicity makes it easy to document commands so that the end user barely knows they are using another language.

tcl , perl ,tk , depend on the usage. All are scripting language .. for EDA tools , tcl is more familiar. but for Scripting, like string functionality, searching keyword, replacing , package , etc Perl is more advanced.

Tcl is used by most of the simulators as well as the backend tools, so well worth having a working knowledge of.
