PIC16F73 and ICSP?

Hello
PIC 16F73 doesnt seem to have ICD support for debugging as well as programming. But this chip has got PGD and PGC pins and it is ICSP cmpatable(datasheet). What does that mean? Which programmer can do the programing of these chip. Will ICD do at least programming using that universal programing adapter with ICD2?

Hai

I have found the solution.

MPLAB 7.01 supports this chip for ICD2 as a programmer only!

Thanks

Re: PIC16F73 and ICSP?

Hi Picstudent,

ALL PIC have PGD and PGC, even the PIC10F that has only 4 I/O has them.
They are used to porgram the PIC with your hex file.
Only part of the PIC have the abilaty to run in debug mode, so again you are using the same pines but for debug. It depands on the core of the MCU if they included the ICD section or not.
You can find inthe Product selector guide from microchip which PIC can support ICD.

Re: PIC16F73 and ICSP?

Hai
Other than the core of PIC, MPLAB version also matters.

Consider 16F73, it has PGD and PGC and supports ICSP,So that can be programmed using ICSP which The universal programming module uses for programming. When i connect ICD2 to my MPLAB (which was 6.5) (UPM works connected with ICD2, no?)I cant enable ICD2 because that version doesnt support this chip as even a programmer. But I have downloaded latest MPLAB from Web (MPLAb7.01) then this chip is supported in programming mode for ICD2.
This was not about debugging. This chip is not having debugging support built in.
Thanks

PIC16F73 and ICSP?

Hi,

Yes you are correct with the MPLAB. But because MPLAB is free to download and easy to update, i didnt day anythinig about it. On the other hand you cant update the silicon on the PIC, so before you use any PIC, it is best to know what you can and what you cant do with it...
Thanks.
