can you rephrase the question?

what i understand is that you are asking what is the difference between an LCD and an LED dot matrix display. well the biggest difference is that an LCD module has a built in controller. you have to "talk" to that controller through special codes that the datasheet tells you. while an LED dot matrix is just a matrix of LEDs.

for a great series of tutorials based on the PIC go to http://www.winpicprog.co.uk

these tutorials use the 628 and the 876 but they will also work for 877 (which is explained in the tutorials).
