Nature of sound waves and their variations with distance

Hey

Question regarding sound waves.

When we throw a stone in water, the wave radius increase as the wave moves away from the starting point. Same is the case with the human sound, right? So when we speak, the sound waves changes in the same way. If we break these waves in some way like through the phenomenon of diffraction, what effect it will have on the sound intensity etc ?

Also, after diffraction, how sound waves changes in amplitude, frequency and pitch?

surely this will have an effect in waves character, as you can feel this when you are with different environment, where the sound waves your heard will be different in different environment and this is due to diffraction or interference.

Audiophiles tell that your music listening room may create undesireable standing waves, if it has length/ width/ height dimensions that are integer ratios, and if the walls are of a hard surface which reflects sound.
 

You have too many threads about your noisy printer room.

In your first thread you were told that using sound absorbent material for walls, ceiling and floor will reduce the average sound level.
Of course earplugs should be used by workers but I recommended noise cancelling headphones.
 

Audioguru :D yes because I am working on it these days. And many questions are coming in my mind.

I know there are many ways now to protect us from noise. But I am trying to find a most sustainable way to remove these echos. I will share my results with you people hopefully. I is getting pretty interesting :cool:
 

Some high end cars use the music sound system to reduce low frequency engine noise by picking up the noise with microphones and inverting the phase to partially cancel the noise. It works only for low frequencies because of phase shifts affecting high frequencies with distance.
 

I once heard about an office which wanted to quiet down a loud printer (or copy machine). They found the most effective solution was to set up large panels around it, with sound-absorbing material attached so it faced the machine.
 

BradtheRad, we had this idea but its isnt effective because to this outer covering will have to removed every time the machine need maintenance and it is hard to apply this on such a big machine.
