Hello :)
I have a 6 months intership withing a steel factory , and I want to understand how the induction furnaces operates,
I have a question about the eddy current wich appear when putting a metal (or scrap) in a magnetic field.
well the eddy current is big enough to melt the scrap , but is it big enough to kill a human , because i saw the melters touching some tall and big scrap with their hand while the magnet crane putting it inside the furnace and nothing happened to them , why is that ?

Hi,

With eddy current the voltage is usually very low (0.1 .. 10V).
Voltages less than 50V are not dangerous for healthy human.

But the current may be some hundreds of amperes.
Let's assume 2V and 200A, this gives 400W of heating power.
Voltages and currents depend on application.

Hope this helps
