Hi,

I was wondering if someone could help me out in designing a bow-tie antenna. I am looking for equations that relate the length, angle, gap of the bow-tie antenna to the resonant frequency and the bandwidth. Any help or even showing good references is appreciated.

Thank you!

The Bow-tie is a popular antenna so there is lots of info around. I hope you have access to a simulator. If so, just try some, and play with the parameters.

Besides "resonant bandwidth" also look to the radiation pattern as having a nice impedance match but bad radiation pattern may not be what you want.

It becomes more complicated when you have a ground plane behind the Bow-tie to get more directivity.

Thanks WimRFP! Actually, I am looking for some analytical equations as one usually finds in textbooks or review papers. I am contemplating using a patch bow-tie antenna for a 1THz application and I need some numbers to make sure that it will be compatible with the rest of my nano-size structure.

I can find tons of applied papers on bow-tie antenna but nothing that explains the basic physics.

The basic physics for such a structure are really difficult and requires you to be fluent in Maxwell's equations and differential calculus. You will very likely have to live with approximate design rules, and or own modification to a proven design.
