Modeling an EM wave without a transmit antenna and modeling a receive antenna for it

Using HFSS,

1. Is there a way of modeling an EM field or wave, instead of modeling an antenna to generate it?

2. Is there a way of modeling only a receiving antenna to receive that wave?

From the tutorials I have been following, all the waves are generated with antennas or a radiating device, but for my purpose, I know the characteristics of the wave I want, so I don't need an antenna to generate that. Also, only transmitting antennas are modeled. I am aware that by reciprocity, both transmit and receive antennas are the same, but I want to model a receive antenna and study how it works with that particular wave.

If anyone can guide me, or direct me to materials I can read, I will be very glad. You can also suggest a tool that can do it better, if you think HFSS cannot do it.

HFSS is probably what you want.

1) Yes there is. Right click in your design view -> Assign Excitation -> Incident Wave. I assume you would want a plane wave.

2) I'm not sure what you mean, but you can assign a surface to the output port of the antenna, and integrate the total power over that surface to find the power received. By setting up an incidence plane in front of the antenna, you can integrate (total) power over that as well to find incident power. From these two you can find AcceptedPower/IncidentPower. You can then vary the incident plane wave to approach the antenna at different angles.
