ModelSim WLF error: Bad Product

I would like to open a WLF file with ModelSim. The WLF file was generated with ModelSim SE 10.2a on a computer running Linux. At home, I am trying to open this with ModelSim PE 10.2c on Windows. This is the error message I get:

# vsim -view <path to wlf>
# WLF Error: Bad product number: <path to wlf>
# Cannot open file: <path to wlf>

Is there a solution known for this problem besides using the same OS and ModelSim version on both computers? I just want to be able to see the waveform, if I can use a different program than ModelSim that would be ok too.
 

I think it's the SE v.s. PE. I highly doubt they are compatible, the other possibility is the 10.2a v.s. 10.2c.

As it's reporting Bad product number....SE and PE are different products.

Hi,

Try the "wlfrecover" command of modelsim (**broken link removed**) to fix the wlf file. Then try to open the waveform again the way you did before. I am not certain this will solve your problem, but is worth a try.

The problem is Modelsim PE does not support post-processing of WLF data - you can only look at waveforms from an active simulation. It has nothing to OS or versions.
 

after a little research...

maybe you could try converting your wlf to a vcd and then vcd back to wlf using the wlf2vcd and vcd2wlf programs. If there is something in the wlf file that is SE only it might get removed when converting to a vcd and back to wlf. Might be worth a try.

Looks like dave posted right before I did...well you could use a vcd view instead....

there are other options for viewing, I haven't tried most of them and the ones I did try didn't necessarily work on all the VCD files I've needed to look view.
