how can we use MOSFET as a Switch i need to know the physics involved in doing so in detail

simple mosfet explanation

hi,

they are operated in the saturation and cut off modes.. to get acted as a switch.. reg. the physcis part of ur question? are u in the need of the semiconductor physic part of it? a small experimental setup is give in the link below.. got with a google search...

h//p://brunningsoftware.co.uk/FET.htm maybe that could help you. and there are lots of hits in google with the topic u posted here.. may be someofthem could help u!

mosfet dmosfet emosfet ?

try this website, **broken link removed**

This shows how the mosfet can be used in SMPS.

Not even a book chapter can complete MOSFET family in detail. E-MOSFET, D-MOSFET, HEMT MOSFET, MESFET etc... Number one characteristics of transistors is switching capabilities.

MOSFET family is like any other transistor but takes the best either is power handling of BJT's or speed capabilities found in other transistors or diodes. In digital comm world, ON-OFF 5volts to 0volts, is all rounded up using mostly using MOSFET's, PIN and Shockley's diodes ...

How to use a MOSFET as a switch and physics behind it? Pick one.

switch mosfet

i guess the simplest explanation would be that if u are working with a mosfet in enhancement mode, a PMOS would turn on if you ground the gate and a NMOS will be in ON state if you connect the gate to Vdd.. the physics involved is pretty easy to understand...

using a mosfet as a switch

physics involved pretty easy? i dont think so!!! nmay be the math.... i could understand very well what u have said.. but its all fact... tey are given in the books.. the reason as to why it happens cant be told that easily.. the simplest reason being.. ppl dint know abt short channel effects when they first proposed these theopries.. then they found something abnormal is happening.. and lead to other resaearch aspects.. so we cant take anything for granted.. ther is still much to know even in this simple topic. dont take anythjing for granted.. even this would be proved wrong or who knows.. may contain soime discrepencies! so get to know it always and not think anything too easy! :) i mean under estimation

very true.. if you pick up a standard text book and go thro the explanation given, it is.. how do i put it... comprehendable?? but the latest research on MOS scaling and its associated effects are really complex and i guess one can devote an entire career to research these and other associated effects. what i meant was if you want a basic explanation, any text book should suffice...[/quote]

using mosfet as a switch

You Can refer Principles of CMOS VLSI design by Kamran,
Very good explanation is given.

im agreed wth arunmit168...the physics of the device is not easy....it involve so many things,,so many kind of physics- classical, modern

i would suggest both of th ebook...sedra smith microelectronics circuits for its operations details and kasap, electronic materials and deivices for its fabulous explanations on the electronics device physics

MOSFET as a Switch

Mosfet by Tsvidis is the bible of mosfets.just try to go through the physics of diode then approach mosfets u will find that the physics is interesting

MOSFET as a Switch

Hi

There is a good free open source simulation tool
SLS Switch level simulator look at it too.
If you could not find it. I will upload it here.

tnx

Re: MOSFET as a Switch

when we poerate in cutoff state no cuurr flows ...so open switch and in sat region voltge is small, curr flows...so closed switch..
