what is poles and zeros in ac analysis

Thank you in advance!!!!!!!!!!

you can using the .pz analysis

The output file can tell you more info about the pole and zero

Re: How to look for zero point and dominant ploe in AC analy

If my simulator is spectre ( it does not support .PZ analyses), how to do?

Hi,yeewong_su, if you only use your eyes, How do you look for Zero point and Dominant pole in your circuits. if you know, please you tell me. thank you!

If you just analysis by hands, the different ckt has the different the dominant zero. you can analysis the typical ckt like the two stage. cap compensate then accroding to your ckt. you can find it.

If you plot in whatever simulator the gain for example to the logarithmic frequency you have yourself the frequency response graph of a circuit. From that projecting your lines (as they were straight lines) and finding their declension (20dB/dec or -20dB/dec etc) you can tell approximately were are the poles and the zeros.

I think only the gain graph is not enough in analyze zeros and poles, phase graph is also necessary.

Re: How to look for zero point and dominant ploe in AC analy

.pz analysis
or
use cadence plot
this may helpful
because .pz
give you a lot incrrect pairs of pole and zero

Re: How to look for zero point and dominant ploe in AC analy

Hi,Layes2:
What's the incorrect pairs of poles and zeros means?
Do you think the simulation result is not correct?

Re: How to look for zero point and dominant ploe in AC analy

In Razavi's book "Design of Analog CMOS Integrated Circuits" the author used one chapter(Chapter 6 Frequency Response of Amplifiers) to describe how to estimate the pole.
"Association of Poles with Nodes".
Although the example circuits maybe too simple, it seems to be a good approach.

Re: How to look for zero point and dominant ploe in AC analy

.pz simulation will help.

Re: How to look for zero point and dominant ploe in AC analy

if you could use matlab you surely find everything you need
for poles/zeros analisys

using matlab is a good suggestion.

The spectre simulator of Cadence have the pole and zero analysis in the analysis type .
In the analysis , you should indicate the ac stimulus . the P&Z analysis is relative with the ac analysis . So you do two type analysis in the mean time.
After analysis , you can see the wave from the (output-main form).

.

Only recent versions have this option .....after ic5.033 version .

Re: How to look for zero point and dominant ploe in AC analy

how do u run the poles and zeros analysis?i only see dc, ac, transient analysis. havent come about pz analysis. where/how should i set up the analysis?

i came across mathlad quite a no of times in the forum. What does it do? How can it help me in my analysis? Where can I find the software?
