Is it a trial and error method to parameterize a new VFD for a operation ?

so for parametrizing a new drive for a motor for a new process or working , do we have to use trial and error method for selecting the right kind of control method (whether Open loop , closed loop , v/f etc) and also the acceleration & deccelaration times ?

right ???

I think, the essential parameters will be defined as part of mechanical engineering normally. If mechanical engineering is using trial and error methods instead of profound calculation, VFD commisioning will take the same approach.

What do you mean by that ?

I'm just asking about acceleration , decceleration & choosing of control method parameters only .....

You are asking about all essential VFD parameters. I say, that the mechanical engineer designing a machine (or planning a reconstruction) should be able to tell you the parameters, if he is working based on calculations.

I think trial and error is not the right terms to ask , i would rephrase my question like that , for , fine tuning of a VFD parameters we can use trial and error technique lets suppose set or factory setting values of acceleration and decceleration times is 5 sec each ..... but they are not giving the right acceleration and decceleration times then i would try to increase them from 5.1 sec to 6 sec to see any betterment in the acceleration and decceleration times of a VFD as per the process and operation of that motor .

Is this the right way ?
