I am a newer, what software can be used to design asic

Which platform?
In Windows based, you should use different tools to cover the design flow: ModelSim (simulation), Leonardo (synthesis), Ledit (layout generation). But the biggest problem is related to layout generation, because it does not support efficient algorithms to do automatic routing.

In Linux based, you can use Cadence packages (IC5.0.33, SOC 3.3, LDV and ICC) which cover the design flow completely. To generate layout for large design, you have to use SUN system instead of PC.

KH

you can use Design Compiler and VCS of synopsys...

nc-sim for simulation
dc for synthesis
primetime for sta

Advanced design system (ADS) or Cadence is very appropriate to design asic.
their functions are also powful and systematic. you can simulation all kinds of parameters by it.
but i suggest you use ADS. for i like it.

vhdl or verilog is rock-bottom programmer language.
ADS or Cadence is simulation tool.
you can choose any one on basis of your need.

i think ,FPGAdv Pro (MentorGraphics) is good in PC.

you need VCS (for simulation), DC(for synthesis), PT (for static timing analysis),

ASTRO (for p& r) to design a asic.

best regards
