ac/dc isolated battery charger using dc to dc full bridge with pfc boost follower.

actually,i need to design full bridge dc/dc converter with the following spec. i have studied two approaches 1) phase shift full bridge converter to achieve zvs 2) normal full bridge operation.

input voltage - 400 Vdc
output voltage - (72 - 300Vdc) wide output voltage range
output current - 10Amax

what exact operation when we go for phase shift approach .. how its works..is that suitable for my application for my power level?..... if yes,pls let me know some paper to study and design it....

or shall i go with normal operate full bridge topology for my power level...? need some paper for this too...

Nowadays most applications will prefer a phase shifted bridge to the normal PWM bridge, since it doesn't really cost anything extra to implement (in terms of components and hardware). It just requires a more specialized controller, and much more effort and calculation in the design procedure. If you are experienced with SMPS and understand the operating principles very well, there's really no reason not to use a phase shifted bridge at your power level. Though keep in mind that maintaining ZVS operation may not be possible with a wide range of output voltages and currents (unless you allow frequency to vary). That's not really a problem in many applications; it just means your light load efficiency will be lower.

I recommend looking at white papers by various controller IC manufacturers. TI, Linear Tech, ON Semiconductor, Fairchild, etc.

Here are a couple good resources from TI:

thank you for your reply.

So as you said when we go for wide output voltage and current ,ZVS is not be achieved. Actually in my battery charger application,
we can connect 72 - 240V (multiple of 12V) battery to charge,we can change the output reference to achieve particular output voltage between the specified. Because for battery charging,it going to operate as three stage level. constant current ,constant voltage, float voltage.

if ZVS is not possible,no need to go to that topology,we can go to normal pwm mode... is it...? or else.....?
