Hi
I wanna use PLC for one of my projects for transmit uart data over this
the baud rate is 9600 and the distance of transmitter and receiver is at most 200 meter over power line
when I google it there are many companies that produce the IC and I'm totally confused
is there any module that can be used?

Re: Power line communication

I'm not sure 100% about this but 200meters is quite a too long distance for plc ..
even an ethernet connexion that is far more reliable than plc has a max distance of 100 meters...
you will need repeaters along that distance.
good luck.

what will you recommend for max distance of 100 meter

Re: Power line communication

why not?
I want to decrease amount of wire that I use
usually I use DMX512 but I'd welcome any solution like PLC that prevent me from wiring

what about long range wireless?

Re: Power line communication

that's another choice
but I guess in noisy environment like factory it isn't a good approach
am I wrong?

I would agree!
we had a data system in a factory that logged data from each machine to a server via wired etherenet.
we tried wireless and it failed - to much electrical noise! we went back to wired networks!

I would have thought the power lines in factory would be very noisy?
I remember having to run separate power cables from local substations for some of the servers (this was some years ago though)

maybe your right but if I find a good IC and its circuit I wanna try it

is there anyone else that can suggest an IC or module?

Re: Power line communication

I tried several plc modules, from different years so certainly with different ic inside, and they all have the same default.
if you plug it in a slot it works, if you plug it in the next wall slot, it does not work... it is not reliable
you have to be on the same portion of the grid, no counter between of it does not work throught.
and this is in the same house, really below the 100 meters of cable...
sorry plc is not reliable for me.
ethernet or rs485 are.
and may be wireless network, some technologies allow long distances, I think I read somewhere fireworks makers use such technolgies outdoors.
