Hi,

I want to draw datapath for a self-designed processor similar to MIPS and DLX (It has almost the same digital components: PC, MUX, Reg. File, Memory and etc). Can you please introduce me a free application to do so?

Microst Powerpoint? Or the free OpenOffice equivalent?
Or XCircuit which is intended for circuit diagrams but actually can be used with any symbols if you create them in a library (use a three-button mouse or one with a clicking scroll-wheel if you wish to use the latter).

EDIT: See this screenshot which shows how I created a example symbol in a library in Xcircuit. I could now use that symbol as part of any drawing in xcircuit if I wanted to. I think Xcircuit would be a good choice for arbitrary diagram drawing needs.

Thanks for your response. I don't want to sketch circuit diagram. If you search DLX processor on google image you will see how my diagram looks like. My design belongs to hardware digital logic category. I also tried microsoft visio but it has limited components. .

I understand you don't want to sketch a circuit, I'm quite aware of that. I'm also aware of DLX from the famous Hennesey/Patterson textbook. Xcircuit can be used for any diagram.
