Greetings,

I am designing a PLC application, and I need a reliable modem for this (IC, not modules, as it will be integrated in small devices). I have studied the Yitran IT700, MAXIMs MAX29xx, NXP TDA5051, LM2893 and ST75xx until now.
I was tempted to go with ST7540, but I saw some negative opinions on this forum.

Does anybody have any experience with IT700 ? Is it really worth the price (I saw it at something like 11 USD in 100 pieces) over the simple TDA5051 (at about 4 USD) ? Besides higher speed, is the "smart" part of the IT700 really as good as the datasheet says ? Does it free the software from every network related task, including collision avoidance ? Does it allow communications initiated by slave devices ? Is it reliable ?

Also, with TDA5051, can somebody offer any opinions ? Maybe regarding communication reliability. Is it possible to implement some kind of collision detection on this, to allow slaves to initialize communication ? My guess is no..

I am also free to suggestions, for other ICs.

Thank you in advance for your time!

Regards,
Alin

Hi Alin,

My name is Yaniv from Yamar electronics. It looks like our SIG60 device is a perfect solution for your application. The SIG60, interface directly with any uc using UART interface (upto 115.2Kbps), acting as a transparent transceiver. It can be a part of a network and was designed to operate on noisy powerlines such as in automotive environment. You can check our PLC solution at www.yamar.com
P.S - The price is about half for 100pcs ;)

Best regards

Yaniv
