displaying message send by rc5 philips remote control on lcd

hi,my task has been drastically modified from the last.now i have to use philips remote and attach a receiver to pic 16f877a and display the function on lcd
for example if i press key 1 then it shhould show key1 on lcd and if volume up down than corresponding msg etc.

I have two questions in mind.
my sir is gonna give me a philips remote of his tv .how can i make sure it is using rc5 protocol only.
second which receiver will do the required.

And am i gonna require an ir decoder.and what are available option?.

ok pratzz its very simple
use 3 pin ir reciever and check its signal in on oscilloscope. then show me if u do ths then further use rb0 external interrupt pin for detecting rising an falling edge.
if any problem then tell

ok,i will check it on monday at my workplace.
and can i use hs0038 as ir decoder for this?
 

i tried to check my remote by checking the output of ir decoder hs0038a2 but it didnt show any waveform at all.can anyone tell me what could be possible reason?
