Hi,

I just came across this terminology of break before make circuit, was wondering what it is ? googling does not give enough information. I just want to learn the basics of it.

When you are switching a signal path between two different sources a "break before make" opens the original signal path before the new signal path is closed. It avoids any momentary shorting between the two signal sources.

Oh I see, so it is just another name for nonoverlapping signal generator..

Not sure what a "nonoverlapping signal generator" is.:?:

Perhaps he is relating it to a two-phase clock.

Such a signal could possibly be used to switch back and forth between two sources in a "break before make" style, but that's a method of achieving it, not a synonym for it.

Yes, I was relating to two phase clock which don't overlap, so there is no chance that both clocks/signals are high at the same time. But, I get your point..thanks for your answers

As an example, think of a switched capacitor circuitry. This works only in case of "break before make".
