Regarding IC DM 74LS266 N

Hello friends,
I am using XNOR gate Ic DM 74LS266N in my project but it not giving any output (logic output) for logic inputs.
what should I do I replaced that Ic with other one but no results:-(
 

74LS266 Quad EXCLUSIVE-NOR Gate with OPEN COLLECTOR output .
Therefore, Open Collector output circuits must be complemented with a “Pull-Up-Resistor” to function properly.
The value of resistor used to pull up an open-collector is not critical. Smaller values offer faster switching times at the price of higher current consumption. Typical values range from a few hundred to few thousand Ohms...

By using pull up resistor it works.
