Hi, I am trying to implement a gps tracker circuit that will be powered up by a li-ion battery. Thus, I need to estimate my average power consumption. I am using TELIT GL865-DUAL GSM Module to communicate with the platform. GSM Module has two power modes :

GPRS - 360 mA
IDLE - 1.5 mA

Of course, most of the time, my GSM Module will be in IDLE state but I need to know how long I will be in GPRS Mode. I want my battery to last for two days. My GSM is expected to communicate with the platform at 10 minutes intervals. This makes :

48 x 60 / 15 = 288 Times my GSM will be in active mode.

Here my question, what would be the average time of each communication with the platform so that I could find out my active mode duration ? I don`t really have an idea about this, for example, something like 10 seconds is too much or too few ?

Thanks for the answers.

I think its a matter of occupied BW as well that impacts the active mode duration. More data content the more BW needed. The more BW needed the longer your active mode duration and utilization of current.

How can I measure the required bandwidth for simple SMS messages for example ?

hi,why you need the accurate data?
the GPS tracker has the sleeping mode founction which could help you to save the battery.
Are you a distributor of the tracker?
