why most comprator using ramp signal to compare

why the most comparator use the ramp signal to compare?why they don't use a fix and specified voltage to compare?
 

The analog comparator designed with opamp will usually have a finite offset in its terminals.

So the minute difference voltage in its input terminals is best depicted in the comparator output only if the input signal is linearly increasing.

Ramp is one such signal and we can have the comparator's output switched to V++ exactly where the ramp input crosses the reference voltage (considering without offset)

is the ramp try to make PWM Puls?
 

Yes. Ramp input is one of the analog signal which is needed for PWM pulse generation for various electrical and electronic applications.

The ramp or triangular wave are , the best things to create PWM and SPWM . and the reason , is , in the spectrum !
