self test code for FPGA

Hello all,
Can someone share how to add a self test code on FPGA and how is that implemented together with hardware. I have also seen certain hex codes for 8051 kit self test. How BISt is achieved?

Which FPGA , it depends, not all can be tested. there is a way round by programming the ROM.
