hi,

1. In a datasheet, it is mentioned "Separate the Analog and Power ground planes".

What is the advantage of separating the analog and power ground planes?

When is it required?

2. When we have to provide separate ground planes for each individual regulated supply? What is the advantage?

Dear balamanikandan
Are you sure that it wrote power ground and analog ground ? i think it wrote digital ground and analog ground and it referred to the star ground ? right ?

Yes. It is power ground and analog ground.

Power ground ( which is noisier) has to be isolated from Analog Ground.

But when we connect both the grounds at single point, how the isolation is provided?

It depends on your application . we have an arrangement which called star ground , when you want connect those grounds together you should do this : power grounds are independent and analogs are independent too . and just at one point you can connect them together .
But still i have some doubts about name of grounds , can you show me the literature that you're referring to ?
Best Luck

Hi,

Basic Switching-Regulator-Layout Techniques - AN2997 ( from Maxim)

Hi balamanikandan
Can you attach it here , please or give me it's link ?

That's a nice design note, I loved the first sentence, repeated below: :)

"It is perhaps a mistake to let undergraduate engineers draw the three small lines that represent ground."

The way that I've seen this done in the past is to connect the sensitive, low current circuits with traces on the surface of the board before tying them to ground. That way they all see the same potential and they are somewhat isolated from large return currents flowing through the ground plane. It's not really a separate plane, but is a way to isolate them from the much larger return currents.

Hi again
As i told you the best way for this connection will be star ground , and about power ground and analog ground , you'll see , the word : analog round and digital ground in many of articles , but both ( the articles that i have seen and yours are referring to the same issue )
Good luck
