I am presently working on a PCB design for a sensor and I have just started learning Capture CIS and PCB Editor.

I completed the schematic in OrCAD Capture and cleared all my DRC errors. I have also succeeded in creating a netlist and thereby exporting it to PCB editor.

At this stage, I have a query viz. even though I have filled in the PCB footprint for the components in Capture CIS, I am not able to view the footprints in Editor as the software is not able to understand the footprint.

Eg:
for a surface mounted resistor I gave the footprint SM/R_0603 . No wonder it worked as there was no SM/R_0603.dra file in the pcb library.

In the footprint library, I found res400.dra,res500.dra,res600.dra etc. But I think these components are through hole devices as I am guessing 400 indicates the height. Can someone explain to me what these res400,cap196,capck62 are? I want to understand how to choose which component and how are these components named?
I have read the IPC standard naming convention but I do not think these have been implemented in the library as there is mismatch between the naming of libraries and IPC convention standard.

My circuit contains:
2resistors of 1K and 2 ceramic capacitors of 0.1uF and 10uF.

Sorry, if my question looks silly as I am just starting to work with PCB editor.

Thanks in advance.

hi ,
first thing footprint are viewed in PCB editor only (choose file location and then select .dra format )
footprint name is depends on IPC standard IPC-7351 but some of company not following this standard and one more thing is 400,600 is may be value
