I purchased a Nickelodeon-themed mini fridge through eBay, and the power cord (meant to plug into the car's cigarette lighter) the seller sent me along with it is has a head that is too big (wide, it looks like) to plug into the fridge. I was hoping someone here might have some suggestions on where/if I can find a replacement cord.

The cord head says:
7A-125V
Lion Cords

I have no idea what's important, so I'll just include it all. The fridge itself says:
Thermoelectric Cooler & Warmer

Input:
AC:100-240V 50Hz
AC/DC
CARD CORD: 12V SA

MADE IN CHINA

Is there any hope of replacing this cord, or some other solution?

Is the plastic/rubber piece too wide to fit the recess? Or, are the electrical terminals too far apart?

It will probably be difficult to find another cord with the exact right size you need.

More than once I have filed away (cut, scraped, etc.) plastic in order to get a connector to fit. Whatever you do, do not hold the thing in your hand while hacking at it with a razor blade held in the other hand.

If it's the electrical contacts that do not match size-wise, you may have some luck at an auto parts or RV shop. Or at Radio Shack.

An alternative is to change the distance between the electrical contacts, although it would be a lot of work. Either by sawing down the middle (and re-gluing somehow). Or by melting some or all of the plastic, and forcing it into a new shape. Or by removing all the plastic, and fabricating a new connector around the electrical contacts spaced at the proper distance. None of these methods is easy to do. A short circuit is easy to cause.

I was wondering that myself; it's difficult to tell. As far as I can see it's the rubber that's preventing the cord from being inserted. When you look at the head, it appears as if it should fit fine on all accounts.

I took a pair of scissors last night and cut the corners off the rubber, hoping I'd at least make some room to wiggle it in a tiny bit, but it doesn't seem to have made much difference. I'll wait till my partner comes home later today and see if he can cut or scrape some of the rubber off the sides for me.

I appreciate the suggestions. I'm hoping the seller will message me back to maybe shed a little light on what the deal with the cord is. In the item's info, he said it had only even been plugged in for testing purposes; I have no idea how he would have managed that unless he accidentally sent me the wrong cord or he's just lying.

The merchant probably tested the first unit only. He may have used a different cable, rather than the one that was included. Even a replacement unit (cord or refrigerator) may have the same problem you have.

'Made in China' is a dubious indicator as to quality. The items tend to be priced to sell. This doesn't mean your unit was a bad buy, if you are able to do a little work to make the mismatched parts fit.

Is there an undersize oval opening in sheet metal, which obstructs the connector? Consider using a tiny grinding stone to enlarge the opening. Or a rat-tail file, mounted in an electric drill. Etc.
