This may be an unusual project, but I need help in making this as I have no real electronic experience. I soldier well at least. So.... I would like to make this item pictured. It's basically a button you push that triggers a number display that counts down from five, then triggers a DSLR camera to take an image. It seems simple, but I wouldn't know where to start. Also I will link the youtube video. Thanks for your time!

your problem is not too clear.
I think you need a controller with timer which should start count down whever triggered with push button, a relay will on the camera after 0 count.

See the attached diagram.
In practice need to adjust the variable resistor P1 in order to obtain the accurate 1Hz pulse. Also need to determine the C1,R1 correct values for triggering the camera (start by using a 4.7uF - 10uF capacitor and some 4.7K up to 22K resistors). Press button 'LOAD/START' to start automatic counting down sequence when necessary.
