microcontroller price

We are using PIC18LF252 and It is $2.24 for 30K quantity per month.
I think that Microchip' s microcontrollers are expensive than others. What do you think about this ?

If you specify here which are your requests in terms of speed, peripherals, memory, ...., somebody might help you find less expensive products.

Bye. Paolo

Speed is not too important for me. 1 MIPS is enough. Peripherals that I use are RTC, EEPROM (2048 byte), 2 UART, 1 SPI, 1 I2C and 96 segment LCD Driver. But I exactly wonder that usual situation which company sells their microcontroller the cheapest.

Oh, is not easy to find low cost MCU with all these requirements, expecially for 2kbyte eeprom and 2 UART.
Holtek 48R50 (3x33 or 4x32 LCD segments) +external 24C16 can be used, but only with up to 9600bps UARTs (they should be implemented in software: it has not UART peripheral inside) and about 50kbps SPI (connecting CLK to an interrupt pin).

I think that HT48R50 costs less than one dollar (may be 80-90 cents?? You must ask to a distributor, I don't know exactly), for 300k/year, but consider that softrware uart will limit the maximum bitrate on those ports.

I Agree HT48R50 or holtek family is really cheappp ... but 8051 is really cheap too.
