I have a VFD bought from sri lanka to create graphic equiliser to my power amplifier.
But I cant find any IC chip for that.
Can you please tell me what is the IC chip I must used for this?
And please share some circuit diagrams for this.
As I am a biginer I cant understand how to find IC chip.
So please kindly tell me what is the Ic chip.
I have attached a phote of that VFD.
Number - BJ576GK Futaba product.

Dear All,

Please please please help me on this......

Thanks.

I like VFD's - they make great displays. VFD's are not hard to drive, but you might find it a complicated project as a beginner. You will not find a driver chip designed for your VFD, and probably won't be able to find a datasheet for it either.

VFD's need a filament supply, probably AC with a large display like this, that heats the filament wires that you can see running across the tube. This is held at a negative potential compared to everything else, so that the emitted electrons are attracted towards the positive grids and anodes.

The grids act as the multiplexing units. Each grid is taken positive in turn; this allows the electrons to flow towards and through it, on to the anodes.

The anodes are the segments that light up. As each grid is activated, so are the anode connections for the desired display segments.

There are general driver chips available from several manufacturers, for instance (some from my spares box):

A6818 from Allegro
ML9271 from Oki
MAX6921, 6922, 6931, 6934 etc from Maxim

Take a look at these links:

Also search at both Futaba and Noritake-Itron for general VFD information.

Hi FoxyRick,

Thanks for your information.

I can understand how grids are scanned and filament are light up.
the problem is I do not know how to find the VFD driver chip.
My VFD has 20 grids and 32 segments. I went through internet but could not find any IC chip for this.
In my VFD there are 7 column graphic display also.
Please share your knowledge on this.
I am very interested in VFD driving with microcontoler.

Thanks Nuwan mahesh.
