Do we need to use MAX232 or equivalent on the 18F452 to use the RS232?

DO we need to use MAX232 or equivalent on the 18F452 to use the RS232?

If you want to connect to the serial port to a PC or other device through the cable, you should use the level convertor, for example Max232. But if you only want to connect with other serial port on the same board, TTL level is enough.
