i want to start in reading and working on Image and signal processing, what are the best books to start from basic to professional?

Digital Image Processing-Rafael C. Gonzalez,Richard E. Woods. Prentice Hall Publications is the best for Image processing.

Yep. Digital Image processing by Gonzalez is a great book. I finished that entire book . It's really awesome by the way. Write programs while reading that book. That really helps you in understanding the concepts. Any help related to MATLAB can be asked in MATLAB central.
