Hello,
I'm trying to convert old Cadstar designs to ALtium 10. The board was designed in Cadstar 7...I have Cadstar 8. I am not familiar with Cadstar. I have the process from Altium to do the conversion, but the Cadstar designs seem to be broken. The components are not pathed out to any library. Not Cadstar 8. I understand there are LIBlists and Library index files with caddstar but I don't see them where the design resides. Just PCB and Sch files. Is there a way to ask Cadstar what the library pathname is that the parts should be looking for? Then I could add it in the library manager. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have the same libraries that the design was designed with?

The std ones are in c:\Program Files\Zuken\Cadstar 8.0\Library however these may not match this design if it was done in V7
and not with this particular installation.
You may be out of luck and have to recreate the parts in Altium.

Look under Tools\Options\Pathnames for the library path.

In CADSTAR, open the design and use File\File Export and save an archive file.

This is the format needed to get the design into Altium.

I'm in the process of looking for the libraries associated to the designs. They apparently don't reside in the Cadstar standard libraries. Thanks for your responce, I'll post back with any progress.

Captain,

You can generate libraries from schematic and PCB design file
As said Mattylad, In CADSTAR, open the design and use File\File Export and save an archive file.
Same archive file you can use for creating libraries

Abhi, will a V8 archive contain enough info to create a parts library from in Altium?

Mattylad,

you pointed right. probably in V8 ,it was not possible to generate part library file.

But if we talk about cadstar to altium, these library files ,probably won't be needed..Just my predictions only!!!

IMO any conversion is going to require some work, having to redo the library is minor compared to having to redo the whole design.
