Our team designed an H.264 soft core on Verilog and and my work is to verify it.

I intend to create a PCB board includes an ARM9, some external RAM and ROM. Ofcouse our H.264 chip is not fabricated yet, then I have to make an schematic and simulate this.

So anybody know can Altium Designer verify our design. Or has any tool to do this work? Or any other way?

Thanks!

Do you have to verify just the H.264 core, or the entire system?

If it's just the core, Altium Designer includes the Aldec FPGA simulator. You could also use Xilinx ISim, which is included in ISE WebPACK. However it won't simulate the entire board - ARM and H.264 chip and signal integrity and everything - unless you're able to model it all in SPICE (Altium Designer includes a SPICE circuit simulator too).

Of course if you have an HDL model of the ARM9, you could probably simulate a lot of it in ISim, and then use IBIS simulations for your H.264 chip.

I intend to use an ARM9 for simulating just because after fabricate, we will use an ARM9 board to test this chip. Your idea of the HDL model of ARM9 make me thinking of using some other microprocessors such as MicroBlaze or Nios to test our design.

Anyway, thank you for your helpful infomations.
