G'day fellows,

I am thinking of soldering SMD MOSFETS on a copper bar, since current is about 200A.

How do I go about soldering them to copper bar, problem is bringing the copper temperature up to soldering temperature. Any ideas??

Thanks

Read datasheet of mosfet to see working temp and amperage. 200A is to high for that single package. Maybe you need paralleling multiple of mosfets.

In datasheet given power (amperage) is at 25C of working temp, see temp/amperage curve in datasheet.
Its very difficult to stay at this level of temperature for such high amperage.

Make calc for heatsink, maybe you need water cooling.

Use small metal plate and few screw (at least two) to mechanical fix mosfet on heatsink.

Read this about heatsink :

A good old fashioned 1KW soldering iron would help a lot. And a lot of patience. Don't apply heat directly to the FET tab, apply it to copper near the tab. That will help ensure the FET doesn't overheat before the copper reaches a high enough temp.

If the busbar is large, then it may be too difficult to solder it, regardless of your method, without destroying the FET. If that's the case you'll want to solder to a smaller piece of busbar, then bolt it into place to connect to the rest of the busbar.

zuq what is code of that SMD mosfet ? Take with care datasheet data about max soldering temp and duration!!! Or say goodbye to mosfet.
