Hello all,

I am working on a Schmitt Trigger flashing oscillator, but am having some issues...

I am using this schematic, except using the CD74ACT14E instead of 40106 IC.
Electronoize Playshop: 40106 Oscillator

The variations besides the IC are 0.005uF capacitor (also tried using a 1uF) and an LED

Am I supposed to use a normal Schmitt Trigger, or an inverter?

Thanks.

Ahh I got it... the problem was just a misunderstanding in the schematic on my part..

I have two more questions about it..
1. It oscillates fine, but sometimes (no specific pattern) the current stays longer.. is there any way to fix that?
2. The IC got very hot after about 10 seconds... should I consider buying a heat sync?

Thanks for the help

EDIT:

Solved both of these questions by lowering the input voltage from 6V+ to ~2.5V+

your supply should be b5.0+ /-0.25V
not more , not less

you can use 6Vbty and add one diode or two in series
otherwise use 8 to 9V adopter and use 7805 on breadboard and manage the Vdd supply rail extended from the regulated supply. use heat sink for 7805
