Hello:

Please excuse me as I am just getting re-acquianted with Pads. When trying to open pcb file created in Pads2007 with Pads2005 there's an error with something like it cannot be opened since its incompatible. If user has Pads2005 and wants to look or edit Pads2007 file, what are the options besides doing the whole re-layout in 2005 ??
Please help.

Export the PCB file to ASCII format (.asc) in PADS2005. And import that file in PADS 2007. .asc format has not changed and hence it can be opened in any version of PADS.

Hope to be useful

Thanks. I actually want to open a file created with Pads2007 within Pads2005 ie. from newer to older version.
Your suggestions above is to open 2005 file in 2007.
I don't have it right now to try but will your suggestion work in going backwards from 2007 file to 2005 ?
Also, will it preserve all the routing, layers, floods, etc ?

Thanks for correcting.... Yes, open the file in 2007 and export the ASCII file. And import that ASCII file in 2005... ASCII file will retain complete design details.

This method works on all Windows based PADS versions :) (right from PADS 4.0)

Thanks again. I'll try it tomorrow and hope you're right. I was ready to do re-layout in 2005 as I couldn't find answers anywhere.
Here's another questions. Is it possible to make the pt.07 library files compatible with pads 2005. I know you can make pt04 files into pt07 but can it go backwards as well. I have two exactly the same libraries one in pt04 and one pt07. The pt07 library has several more components that were created exclusively in Pads2007 (pt07). Can I 're-sync' the pt07 library back to pt04 to make them equal again ???
Thanks again for your answers.

Easiest way to bring the libraries into an older version of PADS is again through ASCII file :) Once you import the ASCII file into PADS2005, save it as a different copy, remove all the traces and Rat Nets. And save all components into a single library file. That will automatically create the decal library and padstack..

BTW, can you share the PCB file here ? if that does not violate your company & client confidentiality and that fits within the size restriction of EDA Board. I can give a try to convert that ASCII file..

The pt conversion is secondary at this point but if you can check if it'll import into 2005 that would be great. Check your email.
