sim card pin assignment

How can i know the standard of a sim card from it's shap and where i can find books about such standard and SIM card pin assignment .. :?

iso7816

The standard you are looking for is ISO7816 (search in the forum). The pin assignment and electrical signals are standardized and described in part 2 & 3 of ISO7816. The type of the card can't be determined by the shape. For asynchronous cards (CPU cards) you've to read the ATR (Answer To Reset). Synchronous cards (memory cards) can be determined by trying the different protocols (2-wire, 3-wire, I2C). But don't expect to find the exact chip type (e.g. Infineon SLExyz) coded in the ATR....

Btw. can someone provide a list of ATRs respective chip type?
