Hi, I am currently using HFSS (v. 13) to model a hollow core triangular PBG fiber for optical transmission. However, I am unsure what boundary conditions to apply on the front and back face as well as the six side faces. I am also wondering if any of you know how to launch a TM01 mode into the waveport. What type of mode alignment and integration lines should I use to achieve this? Paper recommendations on past simulations as well as sample HFSS simulations will be very helpful. Thank you!

are you just solving for the 2D cross section or for a finite length of fiber (which can be determined from 2D cross section assuming invariant geometry in propagation direction) I have set these up successfully and have reproduced n_eff vs V frequency plots for step core fibers that correlate references. Yours should have similar setup concerns including a question of your desired bandwidth...what is your wavelength range of interest for simulation.

have fun
