Hi everyone,

I was wondering if there's another way to control the speed of a bldc motor besides using microcontroller?
what is the simpliest and cheapest way to do it?

Go to DigiKey.com > search BLDC Controller > PMIC motor and fan controllers > Pick filter options for 3 phase > Refine your search to reduce the 220 items to what you want by adding other filters. The first of the 220 items, for example, is an FCM 8201 stand alone controller. A link to the datasheet will appear if you click on it.

I hope that helps you get started.

John

I was considering FCM8201 in my design, but I find the documentation very thin and not a single example of implementation on net that I can find.
If anyone has used this or FCM8202 please give your feedback.
My power stage uses IRAMS10UP60A from IRF. A news article from fairchild stated they have implemented drives with FCM8201 and SPM modules which are similar to IRAMS from IRF. THough there are no further documentation.
