What's the difference between tape in and tape out?

I wonder if anyone has understood what you are referring to...

Alex

Tape out is last phase of integrated circuit design in which design is send to foundry for fabrication in GDSII format. GDSII is used by foundry for making photomasks. I have never heard of "tape in"!!!

I know what tape out means, but I recently saw the expression "tape in" and didn't get what it means compared to tape out.
I saw it in the context of (Drop-dead tape in date ... )

For wafer foundry or mask shop guys, GDSII data base transferred from fabless is a "tape in".
