communication between pc and sensor by RS232

How can we interface/connect a sensor with rs232 port...can u pls help??i am a beginner in electronics. The RX of rs232 is supposed to recieve an 8-bit data right?and the sensor gives either low or a high..

Directly from sensors to PC? Most likely you need microcontrollers and Max 232 in between.

if we connect max 232..all we have is a TX and a RX connectors rt?can these two pins be directly used??i need to 1)detect an input from sensor and 2)display sumtn on screen..and 3)then on using sum odr command..4)get an output(like running a motor/or use it as a switch)..i need help with 1 n 4..how can both these be done with the tx and rx output of max232..??

you cant. RS232 sends serial data and max232 is just a level shifter. it needs something to interpret it

How do we do that??

this is the ckt based on which i was talking..i dont know much..so could u help me??

What is your sensor? DS275 is a Line-Powered RS-232 Transceiver Chip just like max232

you still need a microcontroller. unless your proximity sensor is serial

which micro-controller should i use?to make minimum circuitry?how??

can u help with some link or circuit diagram??
