Hello there Its been a while since I planned to make/buy a Pickit2.Thanks to the high pricing of the same in my area I needed to rule out the 'buy' option. Then I started Googling to find schematics for a Pickit2 clone.I found tons of schematics now the main problem is selecting one.I mostly need to program midrange pics like the 12F629,12F675 etc. Here some schematics I found:

Please suggest a good one from these.

The one from pickit2 datasheet is the best

I cannot try that out coz its too complex and most the parts cant be found in my area.Lol,Iam just 14

Most likely, all of the above design is the same. They remove the variable supply from the design. So, with the above designs, you can program 5V devices only. Anyone above will work.

I'm going to agree with John.

If you want a genuine PICkit2, keep an eye out for one on eBay, I've seen them sell for between $20-$30 new. At that price it's hardly worth building your own, unless you want the challenge. Also while some of the clones are viable designs, many do not support all the features of the original and also require the use of third party software.

Here's the Microchip PICkit2 user guide with schematic:

The genuine Microchip PICkit 2 has some nice additional features besides being a programmer/debugger such as, logic analyzer, UART Tool and OSCCAL calibration regeneration. The calibration regeneration could come in handy with variants like the 12F629 and 12F675.

I have given more priority to the p2 clone found in this site**broken link removed**.It uses easily available components

I get the impression that you would like to build your own PICkit for the challenge as much as the functionality.

Have you searched the forum for design recommendations?

There are several of members who have designed and are actively marketing their PICkit Clones. They regularly give advice as to the pros and cons of various designs presented here on this forum.

Well, thank you bigdogguru I really need to make one coz its too costly to ship it to India.Even though p2 clones are available,I can make a better one than those for a fraction of the price. For example A Canakit mini p2 costs around 70$ while I can make the clone featured in the translated webpage for around 7$ including the PCB, the housing and the USB cable

Hi,

This circuit does work, the ferrite on the usb +5v line is not essential.

You can do most Pk2 things with it, like Usart tool and Logic Analyzer, doing 3v3 chips is easy if you just power the whole circuit wiht a 3v3 regulator.

Edit - strange things happening with the EDA board - hopefully the diagram is here now ..

No ? - well you can find it on this thread https://www.edaboard.com/threads/216947/

@aravindj36
your choice is right
the best thing about the Palma circuit is that the zif socket is right on the pcb
