digital camera design

July 27, 2004

I am a computer engineer and I want to know some information about the image sensor products. I want to make a digital camera project. I want to know some technical information about:
1- The interfacing between a CMOS image sensor and a PIC micro- controller.
2- How to choose a lens to use it with the camera.

I want also to know the image sensor prices and if I want to buy a sample, what will I do? I will be also grateful if you reply me soon.
Best regards
Mostafa

Re: digital camera design

1. About interfacing a CMOS image sensor and a PIC microcontroller.

Inteferfacing depends on the sensor. Normally image sensors are quite faster, 8bit@19MHz. You should have a very fast microprocessor, if it is a PIC, do not think about real time, maybe if you lower your video quality.

2. Choosing the lens.
Lens can be expensive, it depends on the Focus, it specially depends on the distance of the object and the range of the picture you want to take. On www.ni.com there is a tutorial on choosing lens.

You can check prices on www.ovt.com or www.quasarelectronics.com

Re: digital camera design

hello, I am Electronic enginner too an I am working with cmos camera sensor too, and I have a couple of samples that i can send you, i am searching almost the same, for security cameras, you know some circuit to connect this type of sensor?, they are the th7813A form ATMEL
