i have a Hitach HD44780 Compatible LCD from pvc
the problem is that when i bought it and connected it to the supply the test screen appeared . but when i repeated this the next day there was nothing (no test screen) and i discovered that when the supply voltage increases above 5v which should be its supply voltage some blocks appear and then disappears quickly. so i don't know if it is damaged or not?
i hope u could help me
Thanks in advance

Hi !
The lcd don't like electrostatics discharges, i think it's damaged :?
You should make a little test wiring to see if it would be damaged...
Keep me up to date on your tests
regards,

hi...
why dont you change the contrast using the contrast pin and a POT and connecting it some test circuit.... LCD's are not that unstable....
bye

Some of the LCDs I ave worked with give totally random outputs when uninitialised, even under the same test conditions. I'd suggest you may as well try initializing it.

You will see funny thing if you didn't connect it correctly, and write your code correctly. For the former case, you run into the possiblity to damage the LCD.
